“FRANCESCO DE GREGORI. NEVERGREEN”
“FRANCESCO DE GREGORI. NEVERGREEN”, produced by OUR FILMS, part of the Mediawan, Friends TV, Darallouche and Caravan group of companies, is set to premiere at the 82nd. Venice International Film Festival on 5th September at 22.30 in the Sala Darsena Out of Competition section – Cinema & Music Special.
Ten months ago, Francesco De Gregori chose an unusual starting point for his music: he decided to perform every evening for a month in a small theater in Milan, the Out Off, presenting lesser-known songs from his repertoire— even those that were “completely unknown”, the nevergreens that never became “evergreens” – each time with a new set list, and sharing some of them with a number of special guests.
Then, he decided to add another level to a project which already had all the hallmarks of being a happening, and make a film out of it. Not just another celebratory biopic, nor a standard film-concert, but a film totally immersed in his music, seamlessly moving between the songs, in the dim light of the theatre, in the emotions experienced each evening and in all the impromptu encounters.
He shared the project with Stefano Pistolini, whom he’d already worked with before (on “Finestre Rotte” in 2013 and in 2022 on “Falegnami & Filosofi” with Antonello Venditti) and together they embarked on a film with a narrative that lies in the recurring twenty concerts performed during the residency, and above all in the sounds and voices of Francesco and those who shared the stage with him, making no concessions for circumstantial statements.
The result is “NEVERGREEN” a work that aims to experiment in new ways of combining music and images, blending them to the point of creating a proper story.
The film also features Malika Ayane, Elisa, Jovanotti, Ligabue and Zucchero.
