MUBI SIGNS GLOBAL AGREEMENT WITH PRODUCTION COMPANY OUR FILMS (MEDIAWAN) BY MARIO GIANANI AND LORENZO MIELI
MUBI, the global distributor, streaming platform, and production powerhouse known for its commitment to supporting visionary cinema, today announced a major new three-year co-production and financing agreement with OUR Films, a Mediawan company. This strategic alliance marks a significant expansion of both companies’ commitment to bold, auteur-driven storytelling on a global scale.
OUR Films, founded by renowned producers Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Mieli within Mediawan, is based in Rome and is dedicated to the development and production of ambitious projects with leading European, American, and international filmmakers. With a dynamic slate of feature films, documentaries, and limited series, the company has quickly become a creative hub for world-class talent and courageous cinematic voices.
This new agreement builds on the strong creative relationship already established between MUBI and Mieli, who have recently collaborated on three highly anticipated projects: Priscilla by Sofia Coppola, starring Cailee Spaeny; Maria by Pablo Larraín, starring Angelina Jolie; and Queer by Luca Guadagnino, starring Daniel Craig. These films highlight a shared passion for artistically ambitious, internationally minded cinema.
The partnership further deepens the collaboration between the two companies. Under the terms of the agreement, MUBI will finance a slate of new projects produced by OUR Films, while OUR Films will contribute additional equity investment. MUBI will handle worldwide rights for all co-produced titles, ensuring global distribution and visibility for each project.
The first film to emerge from this new partnership will be the next feature by Academy Award®–winning director Pawe? Pawlikowski (Ida, Cold War), underscoring the high artistic ambitions of the agreement.
In a joint statement, Gianani and Mieli said:
“We are incredibly excited to embark on this new journey with Efe, Jason, Michael, and the exceptional MUBI team. Their bold, forward-looking vision aligns perfectly with ours—to support powerful, emotionally engaging stories made by the most inspired filmmakers and creative talents in the world. Together, we want to build something truly lasting: cinema that deeply moves audiences and resonates across cultures, borders, and generations.”
Efe Cakarel, Founder and CEO of MUBI, added:
“It is an absolute privilege to collaborate with Lorenzo and Mario, two extraordinary producers whose work I have long admired. Their commitment to bold, author-driven cinema is unparalleled. We share the same passion and curiosity for storytelling, and I couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead.”
The agreement follows a highly successful year for MUBI, which set new box office records with the Academy Award®–winning body-horror film The Substance, grossing over $17 million in North America and more than $83 million worldwide.
Upcoming MUBI productions already announced include The Mastermind by Kelly Reichardt, starring Josh O’Connor, as well as co-productions such as Father Mother Sister Brother by Jim Jarmusch, starring Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Indya Moore, and Luka Sabbat; and Rosebush Pruning by Karim Aïnouz, starring Callum Turner, Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, Lukas Gage, Elena Anaya, Tracy Letts, Elle Fanning, and Pamela Anderson.
