THE EXTRAORDINARY CINEMATIC TAKE BY MARCO BELLOCCHIO ON ENZO TORTORA’S STORY

April 16, 2025

Rome, September 25, 2024. PORTOBELLO will be the first tv series produced by Our Films with Kavac Film, an ARTE France co-production and in collaboration with The Apartment Pictures, a Fremantle company. Filming has just begun in Rome, with additional locations set in Sardinia, Campania and Lombardy.

Directed by Marco Bellocchio, the six episodes series will recount the story of Enzo Tortora, famous host of the TV show “Portobello” which aired in Italy from 1977 for seven seasons. Tortora was accused by several justice collaborators of being part of a Camorra association dedicated to drug trafficking. After spending years in prison and enduring a lengthy trial, he was eventually acquitted of all charges.

The cast of the tv series includes Fabrizio Gifuni, as Enzo Tortora, together with Lino Musella, Romana Maggiora Vergano, Barbora Bobulova, Alessandro Preziosi and Fausto Russo Alesi. The series is written by Marco Bellocchio, Stefano Bises, Giordana Mari and Peppe Fiore.

Tortora suffered a great injustice: arrested, tried and convicted, he was completely acquitted only after a long judicial odyssey. He was a fighter, but the fight made him sick and die. I won’t make a holy picture of him; I will dig into his character through a series, as a single film cannot contain him” declares the director Marco Bellocchio.

The series PORTOBELLO is coming soon in cinemas and on television.
